The Capital Group

Recognized as America’s largest metal manufacturing equipment distributor, The Capital Group optimizes its customers’ return on investment in sophisticated metal fabrication equipment. The company provides those in aerospace, oil and gas, arms, automotive accessory supply, boat fabrication, and many other industries with some of the best metal fabrication equipment in the world, from around the world. As the parent of Capital Machine Technologies, Inc., the group’s three divisions set metal fabrication in North America on a unique trajectory.

Secure in the knowledge that its sterling team is as committed to the company’s success as its leadership is, Capital’s approach to robust organizational health is evident in everything it does. Dedicated to the strength of its teams and the role of every individual in those teams, the company is committed to maintaining a collaborative spirit. In turn, this sense of cohesion drives the thorough in-person sales process the team provides to all buyers.

At Capital, machines are not simply ordered and delivered; instead, the company’s salespeople first study the environment in which the equipment will be used and the demands that will be placed on the machine before attempting to align any piece of equipment with a client’s facility.

The company’s Robotics division, Capital Robotics, is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the biggest of its kind in the South. Complete with robotics technology and training centers at each of its four facilities, Capital Robotics offers a seamless customer experience backed up with solid expertise. Capital Machine has three locations in Dallas, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, and Tampa, Florida, while Modern Machinery operates from Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, this powerful team of experts serves their territory with outstanding service and a growing body of knowledge.

With 36 service technicians and 32 sales representatives, all solely focused on customer satisfaction throughout 16 states, doing business with The Capital Group simply makes sense for high-end fabricators for whom uptime is imperative.

First opening its doors as Capital Machine in Florida in 1984, the Georgia facility soon followed. The original outfit then expanded into Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. Further market demand led the firm to establish more outfits in Oklahoma and Louisiana. Dallas, Texas followed early in the new millennium. Today, Capital Machine continues handling next-generation metal fabrication machinery that includes everything needed for metal processing—from cutting, rolling, and deburring to system software and everything in between.

Offering a similar selection of services as Capital Machine, the group’s most recent merger, Modern Machinery, is a sister company, which will continue to uphold its traditional set of services out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Now also a part of The Capital Group, this division has been in the industry for more than six decades, serving its state alongside Kentucky, Michigan, and beyond.

An earlier expansion, Capital Robotics, which also shares a facility with Capital Machine in Atlanta, Georgia, followed in response to the market demand for automatic welding services. As a welding supplier, this division provides weld cells, welding consumables, and robotic welding components alongside in-house training for seasoned service, welding, and applications engineers.

Responding to even the most complex market demands with a complete and sophisticated metal fabrication equipment offering, Capital eliminates the need for clients to turn to any other provider for supplementary services. Its founders have instilled a culture of excellence in its teams, representing at least a century of expertise. Drawing on old-fashioned values to deliver sterling business acumen and modern service, the company’s leadership is confident in its capabilities.

“Not only can we help create a solution for your manufacturing facility, but no matter what your metal application is, we can come up with a solution that is going to be beneficial for your company, saving you time and saving you money,” says Sherman Whited II, Vice President of Marketing. And that is not just talk; while many machine distributors refer clients to the relevant OEMs as soon as a problem crops up, Capital does things differently.

Every client benefits from having a comprehensive service program agreement with Capital, giving them comfort in the knowledge that its expert, factory-trained technicians are ready to assist. This makes the company’s parts and service portfolios two of its most popular offerings. Customers know they can trust the team to deliver reliable quality on both fronts—especially when protecting their costly equipment investments and optimizing productivity.

“Our success hinges on the expertise of our service team, which is crucial for smooth installations and ongoing support,” says Robotics Manager Bryan Rodriguez. “Their excellence often leads to repeat business and additional system purchases. We deeply understand fabrication and the importance of upstream processes, ensuring that each installation is optimized for success,” he says. “This comprehensive approach guarantees that our clients receive exceptional service and performance from their systems.”

Capital Machine’s list of machinery on offer includes metal cutting units by Messer, horizontal press brakes by Euromac, hydraulic and electric press brakes by fabricators like Safan-Darley, and Accurpress, a range of press brake beds used in the sheet metal and metal plate fabrication process; Accurpress is noted as North America’s leading brand in this regard. Some of these beds can weigh as much as 3,000 tons—an impressive amount of engineering in anybody’s book. There are also Schroeder metal folders, robotic bending machines, and more.

In addition to its unbeatable range of products, the Capital Robotics sales team is equipped with an in-depth weld-cost analysis tool to prove units’ potential return on investment to prospective buyers. Well aware of its clients’ need to run their operations as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible, The Capital Group specializes in supporting its business partners in achieving this. By supplying its partners’ outfits with equipment that suits their unique needs, its sales team saves customers the headache of figuring out which types of machines and brands would suit their setups best.

“Capital Robotics delivers exceptional value to the welding industry through cutting-edge technology and comprehensive support,” says Rodriguez. “Our advanced robotic welding systems, including automated load and unload cells, enhance productivity and precision, allowing seamless integration with fusion arc weld cells. As a single-source provider, we offer end-to-end support from design to maintenance, ensuring your operations run smoothly and efficiently. With Capital Robotics, you gain a trusted partner committed to advancing your welding capabilities and driving your success.”

Capital Robotics’ trustworthy robotic welders and welding arcs give its clients the fabrication power they need to take their manufacturing outfits to the next level in terms of efficiency and quality. Its star product, the entirely modular, ergonomically designed Fusion Arc, provides customers with several optimal advantages. Beyond its impressively compact size, some of its strengths include straightforward programming, mobile cells that give operators more execution freedom, an improved welding experience, and final product—all this plus the convenience of components provided by a single manufacturer.

“Welding automation is crucial as the industry loses over 400,000 jobs annually, with the number growing,” shares Rodriguez. “As U.S. manufacturing expands, the shortage of skilled welders creates a gap in meeting demand. Automation fills this void by increasing productivity and consistency, allowing manufacturers to maintain output despite fewer workers. It enables skilled welders to focus on complex tasks, while automated systems handle repetitive work, ensuring the industry can thrive despite the labor shortfall.”

“With welding automation, you can get that weld precise every time, all day,” Whited agrees.

Capital is also decidedly proactive in getting the word out about its services. Known for hosting informative exhibitions with its TechExpo, which was held in Dallas in March this year, the company invites enthusiasts, existing clients, and curious prospective clients to visit and explore its equipment and all the possibilities. To this end, mid-October will see the team exhibiting at one of the industry’s landmark tradeshows, FABTECH 2024 in Orlando, Florida. Here, it will be showcasing its new collaborative, mobile robotic system, Opti-Cart, a modular unit that can be synchronized to operate with welding cells. The company will also be represented at Atlanta’s METALCON at the end of October.

With a great deal of manufacturing returning home to North American shores, Whited notes a significant increase in the company’s business. Moreover, some global giants who have trusted the firm for its top-notch customer service and attention to detail for decades are opting to bring it even more business.

As the demand for automation continues growing globally, The Capital Group continues working alongside its customers to address their ever-evolving needs. This will, no doubt, help it retain its position as North America’s leading distributor of metal fabrication equipment and robotics for decades to come.
