U.S. manufacturing activity expands, a first since 2022
U.S. factories saw increased orders and quickened production resulting in the first expansion the manufacturing sector has experienced since 2022, which has signalled a cause for future-focused optimism. According to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM)’s manufacturing gauge, activity was up 1.7 points in January to 50.9, which is the highest it has been since September 2022, and indicates growth. Aviation industry worried about tariffs
The newly instituted tariffs that have been levied against the global steel industry and the impending threat of a trade war with trade partners like Canada and Mexico has the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and many others concerned that supply chains will be impacted. “Tariffs would affect the intricate and very complex global supply chain that can take years to establish given that it relies on suppliers with unique capabilities that are highly regulated and therefore cannot be easily replaced,” said GAMA in a statement....

President Trump is sparing no one from the impacts of his tariffs, as he has expanded steel and aluminum tariffs to all countries effective March 12, 2025. On February 10, 2025, the President issued two proclamations: Adjusting Imports of Aluminum into the United States and Adjusting Imports of Steel into the United States, which modify the tariffs originally imposed in 2018 under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
