In seeking a simplified approach to environmental accountability in manufacturing, Epicor, an industry-specific enterprise software provider, has devised a patent-pending Carbon Cost Rollup solution within its Epicor Kinetic offering, the Epicor Industry ERP Cloud purpose-built for manufacturing operations. The offering is an adaptation of established “cost rollup” methods from standard costing systems that apply to carbon tracking by treating carbon dioxide emissions as a currency, which enables business leaders to calculate compliance reporting with a high degree of certainty.

The solution calculates the carbon cost for each component which helps to assess the cumulative carbon expenditure for the final production, simplifying the complex calculations related to carbon accounting, doing so by integrating the function into existing cost accounting software to improve ease of use. In this case, the Epicor Carbon Cost Rollup solution is complementary to the company’s collaboration with carbon intelligence platform Climatiq, a relationship that began in 2024 when Climatiq’s carbon footprint calculation API was integrated across Epicor’s portfolio to support sustainability goals in line with profitability.
