Ford will halt production of its F-150 Lightning electric vehicle (EV) pickup truck at its Dearborn facility for six weeks effective November 18 to adjust production to adapt to market conditions. This news follows a production cut that took place in April, bringing the model to one shift after temporarily cutting one of three shifts in October 2023.
This comes amidst a continual move to scale back its EV plans in favor of a stronger push for hybrid vehicles. One of the greatest barriers seems to be high production costs, which the automaker is seeking to bring down.
While sales of EVs are up, including those of the F-150 Lightning, they are just a fraction of overall sales. The company is expected to lose nearly $5 billion on EVs this year, partially due to the cancellation of the three-row EV SUV in August.
